All About Vitamin C
Okay, I’m trying to not get too geeky here, but let’s talk about Vitamin C! I’ve really been getting into the chemistry behind skincare, researching ingredients and all that stuff. To my surprise, Vitamin C popped up quite a few times during my research. We all know Vitamin C is good for our bodies. Especially when that terrible cold hits you! What I didn’t know was the fact that Vitamin C is also great ingredient for your skincare. It is supposed to be this magical antioxidant which brightens up your skin.
Vitamin C for your Skin
Vitamin C is an antioxidant and as such has multiple benefits for your skin. It’s brightening, helps with wound healing and even protects your skin from UV rays, irritation and pollution. You can actually find Vitamin C in your skin, but ageing, UV lights and pollution can lower the natural amount of Vitamin C in your skin. This is why adding Vitamin C to your skincare can really improve it. Considering its benefits, it’s surprising that it’s not that well known as a skincare ingredient. Well, the problem is that it only works fresh.
You know how fresh cut fruit, such as apples, change colour when you leave them uneaten for too long? It’s because of the Vitamin C that oxidises! Left open to air or light, it changes its formulation and loses its effectiveness.
Clinique Fresh Pressed
To combat the problem of Vitamin C, Clinique uses fresh, pure and minimally processed Vitamin C in their products. Plus, the Clinique Fresh Pressed Powder Cleanser comes individually sealed packets, while the Clinique Fresh Pressed Daily Booster Clinique is packaged in a lightproof vial. You use the powder to cleanse mornings or evenings by adding water to your hands to create a smooth paste, and the daily booster can be added to your daily moisturiser within 7 days of the first use (to keep it fresh!). The products can be a little intimidating to use, as there aren’t many products like these ones on the market. Luckily the Clinique Fresh Pressed 7 Day System is a great way to test this new line, as you get clear instructions and the right amount of products to use for a week, in order to brighten and improve your skin’s texture.
I’ve now finished my Clinique Fresh Pressed 7-Day System and at £25 it’s a great way to test out the products for the first time without spending a fortune. I used the cleanser and the booster in the mornings to really give my skin that boost for the day, and also to avoid using Vitamin C together with my Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% by The Ordinary (they don’t go well together).
The Daily Booster has a serum like consistency, so it mixed easily with my moisturiser. Personally, it felt like a hassle to add this step to my morning routine. It would have probably been better for me to use in the evenings (I’m more inclined to take my time with skincare in the evenings). As for the Powder Cleanser: I loved it! It lathered up really nicely, felt comfortable on the skin and made me feel all fresh and bright in the morning. The consistency is perfect for the mornings, when you don’t want to use a harsh cleanser. The individual packets were also ideal for my trip to Wales, 3 sachets nicely tucked into my toiletry bag. Will probably get myself more, I mean £24 for a month’s worth of high quality cleanser isn’t too bad!
You can purchase the Clinique Fresh Pressed range online and in most department stores.
